About

Meet Your Trainer, Cherry Baker

Cherry is 63 years fabulous and has been in the fitness industry for over 45 years and she truly believes that feeling strong, capable and confident should never have an age limit.

Her journey began on the running track and continued through bodybuilding, teaching and competing in aerobics, training as a Clinical Pilates instructor, and later becoming a Clinical Pilates teacher trainer.

Movement has always been part of Cherry’s life — but so has learning how to move well, safely, and with purpose.

Now, Cherry brings all of that experience directly from her front room to yours, helping women build strength with weights in a way that feels supportive, not overwhelming.

Why Cherry Works with Women in Their 50s, 60s and 70s

As the body changes with age, the way we train needs to change too — not by doing less, but by training smarter.

Cherry saw too many women:

  • Feeling nervous about exercise
  • Unsure what movements were safe
  • Being given workouts that weren’t made for their bodies
  • Or being told to “just take it easy” instead of being properly supported

She knew there had to be a better way.

Strength training, when taught correctly, can:

  • Protect joints
  • Support bone health
  • Improve balance
  • Build confidence in everyday movement
  • And help women stay independent for longer

That’s why Cherry now focuses on strength training that is specifically designed for women in this stage of life — with good form, sensible progression, and plenty of encouragement along the way.

Cherry’s Approach to Training

Cherry’s coaching style is calm, supportive and grounded in real experience — not fitness trends.

You won’t find:

  • Shouting
  • Punishing workouts
  • Or pressure to push through pain

Instead, you’ll find:

  • Clear demonstrations
  • A strong focus on technique
  • Exercises adapted for ageing bodies
  • And reassurance that you are doing the right thing for yourself

Progress is built through consistency, confidence and care — not exhaustion.

Cherry was invited to become a teacher trainer just minutes after taking her RSA exam back in the 80’s. Since then, she trained in delivering weight training, pre & postnatal (did we mention she had published books in this subject). 30 years ago, Cherry trained in Pilates, and with the help of physiotherapist Chris Norris amongst others, she developed Modern Pilates, which takes a more clinical approach to Pilates .

Cherry has developed many training programs for other fitness and Pilates teachers, whilst rediscovering her need and love for weight training at 58.

Cherry with her family have run the Pilates Studio in Glossop for over 24 years. Whilst Cherry insists this form of exercise is great, she started to see that as women mature we MUST lift weights!

She was more than upset and angry seeing YouTube videos and online content that promised workouts for women, say suitable for menopause, but that did NOT reflect in any way the research and theory behind working with this specific group.

She set up her online classes for her existing clients in Covid that has since gone from strength to strength initially just be word of mouth.
